October is National Cooperative Month, an annual celebration of what makes co-ops different and the impact they have on the communities they serve.
Electric cooperatives like Haywood EMC are rooted in the communities they serve, independent of outside interests, and governed by a board of directors elected by members, not shareholders.
Throughout each year, Haywood EMC strives to create a brighter future for its members and the communities it serves. These efforts include commitments to reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric service, as well as to community and economic development.
Over the past year, Haywood EMC has supported community programs such as education grants through the Bright Ideas grant program, Fire Department donations, College scholarships for local students, school booster programs, local non-profits, low-income weatherization projects, and much more!
As your local, not-for-profit, member-owned electric provider, we work to strengthen the areas we serve while building a brighter future for our members. Throughout the rest of this month, we'll highlight the many advantages of being a cooperative member!
To celebrate this year's National Cooperative Month, we'll be releasing a short video each week explaining the history, purpose, and unique advantages of electric cooperatives like Haywood EMC. You can find these "Co-op 101" videos in the link below:
