Preparing for Extreme Cold: How You Can Help Conserve Energy
Another weekend of winter weather is in the forecast. While snow and strong winds are possible, extreme cold temperatures are our biggest concern. Current forecasts indicate that much of our service area may approach or fall below 0°F Saturday night, with significantly lower wind chills.
During periods of extreme cold, energy demand rises quickly as heating systems run longer and harder. To help reduce strain on the electric grid and support reliable service for everyone, we ask all members to be mindful of their energy use throughout the weekend.
Simple Ways to Conserve Energy
Small actions across our community can make a big difference:
- Lower your thermostat a few degrees, especially overnight or when you’re away.
- Avoid using large appliances like washers, dryers, and dishwashers during peak times.
- Turn off unnecessary lights and electronics when not in use.
- Seal in warmth by closing blinds at night and blocking drafts around doors and windows.
Safety First
While conserving energy is important, your safety comes first. Keep your home warm enough to prevent frozen pipes and check on neighbors who may need assistance during extreme cold.
Thank you for doing your part to help conserve energy and keep our community powered through this winter weather. Stay warm and safe.
