Small seasonal changes can make a big difference in your comfort and
monthly energy use.

Spring

  • Replace HVAC air filters.
  • Seal air leaks around doors and windows.
  • Schedule HVAC maintenance before summer.
  • Use natural ventilation on mild days.

Summer

  • Set thermostats to 78°F when home.
  • Use ceiling fans to reduce cooling costs.
  • Close blinds during the hottest part of the day.
  • Avoid using heat-producing appliances during peak hours.

Fall

  • Have heating systems checked before cold weather.
  • Check attic and crawlspace insulation.
  • Seal fireplaces and unused vents.
  • Adjust thermostat settings as temperatures cool.

Winter

  • Set thermostats to 68°F or lower when home.
  • Use programmable or smart thermostats.
  • Reverse ceiling fans to push warm air down.
  • Let sunlight in during the day and close curtains at night.
