Past Events & Meetings:
Meet Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus at Haywood EMC
Mr.& Mrs. Santa Claus scheduled to visit Haywood EMC, come out and meet them!
Haywood EMC contacted the North Pole to request a visit from Santa Claus this December. At first Santa’s staff said that while they were sorry, there is no way Santa could make extra travel plans with his already busy schedule that time of year.
However, two days later, Haywood EMC received a call from Santa’s only advisor (Mrs. Claus) who said they both would be coming. She said once they realized Haywood EMC served some of the best behaved children in the world they had to make the effort.
After juggling their schedule Mr. & Mrs. Claus said they would be at Haywood EMC’s Corporate Headquarters at 376 Grindstone Road, Waynesville, NC on Thursday, December 14th to visit children from the electric cooperative’s service area. Members of the cooperative can bring their children to meet Santa and his wife from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. or from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. on December 14th.
Haywood EMC names Tom Batchelor to succeed Norman Sloan as CEO
Tom Batchelor has been selected as Executive Vice President & CEO of Haywood Electric Membership Corporation (HEMC) headquartered in Waynesville. Batchelor moved into the position upon the retirement of Executive Vice President & General Manager Norman Sloan in April.
Batchelor brings over 23 years of cooperative knowledge and experience to this position. He began in the electrical utility business in 1982 after graduating from NC State University with the City of Monroe and has since worked for two other cooperatives and an electrical consulting firm before coming to HEMC in 1999 as Assistant General Manager/Manager of Operations and Engineering. He is a registered Professional Engineer in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia.
Batchelor is married to his wife Robin with three grown children and 2 grandchildren.
Sloan retires from a distinguished career with more than 30 years in the electric cooperative industry with the last 21 as General Manager of Haywood EMC.
The HEMC board of directors named Batchelor as Executive Vice President/CEO to succeed Sloan. This announcement comes with a mixture of sadness and excitement as Sloan leaves a legacy of being a great leader who cares for every member of his cooperative family and employees as exhibited in how he always handled the big challenges he faced while serving. Nonetheless, Batchelor has extensive knowledge and experience in all aspects of the industry that will be of great benefit to the members. Your Board of Directors are confident he will provide exceptional leadership to the Cooperative.
Haywood EMC members enjoy 5th Annual Member Appreciation Days!

Haywood EMC will hold the annual business meeting with the event itself being strictly a business meeting on Thursday, August 10th, beginning at 7:00 p.m. at the Waynesville office headquarters
